Arthritis is a painful monster that takes the form of several diseases affecting the joints, with the most common iterations being rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and gout. Pain and stiffness are the main symptoms, accompanied by joint pain. All of which worsen with age.
Of all the natural health systems tackling the arthritis problems, aromatherapy has emerged to become quite an effective tool in managing this dreadful disease. This article is written to address what essential oils to use in the fight against arthritis and how to use them, including how and when to apply blends etc.
The process may take several weeks and for the first two weeks in treating all three forms of arthritis, the process will remain the same in terms of detoxification. Detoxification will be done by taking baths daily with the following recommended essential oils and their specific doses.
Detoxification Daily Baths:
Epsom Salts 2 handfuls
Rock Salt 1 handful
Add only 2 drops of the below synergistic blends. The number of drops shown covers 14 days usage.
Arthritis Phase 1, Bath Synergistic Blend (Detoxification Continuation):
Fennel 30 drops
Cypress 16 drops
Juniper 10 drops
Note – During this two-week cycle of detoxifying the body, do not use any other treatment. Once the two-week period has passed, then you can continue to use any of the below treatments for your specific type of arthritis. It’s also important to know that during this detox period, the toxins exit the body via urination and bowel movements.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
This type of arthritis is exceedingly painful and is caused by inflammation of the fibrous connective tissue around the joints, like the wrist and knuckles, though any other joints may be impacted. This can all lead to deformity and loss of mobility in the joints.
Arthritis Phase 2, Essential Oils (Rheumatoid Arthritis Continuation):
Chamomile Roman Peppermint
Chamomile German Niaouli
Calendula Tagetes
Lavender Yarrow
Angelica Eucalyptus (all the various types)
Just like with the detoxification process above, add two handfuls of Epsom salts and one handful of rock salt with your daily bath. That includes using 4 drops of the formula shown in the synergistic blend below:
Arthritis Phase 2, Synergistic Blend (Rheumatoid Arthritis Continuation):
Lavender 10 drops
Eucalyptus Peppermint 30 drops
Chamomile Roman 16 drops
The above amounts are enough for fourteen baths.
Use the below synergistic list to massage the whole of your body…….
Arthritis Phase 2, Massage Oil (Rheumatoid Arthritis Continuation):
Chamomile German 8 drops
Lavender 10 drops
Peppermint 2 drops
Eucalyptus 8 drops
Dilute the blend in two tablespoons of vegetable oil.
Once you complete all of the above phase 2 treatment over a two-week period, you can now turn your attention to phase 3, beginning the essential oils below:
Arthritis Phase 3, Essential Oils (Rheumatoid Arthritis Continuation):
Ginger Chamomile German
Black Pepper Rosemary
Chamomile Roman Lavender
Eucalyptus Frankincense
Tagetes
Phase 2 baths previously outlined above, will be slightly altered to combine with the synergistic formula below. The altered part will be you leaving out the Epsom salts. Use 4 drops per bath for the following:
Arthritis Phase 3, Synergistic Blend (Rheumatoid Arthritis Continuation):
Ginger 8 drops
Rosemary 15 drops
Frankincense 5 drops
The quantities above are enough for seven baths.
The below massage oil is a blend that is to be used in this phase 3 treatment. Use the phase 2 massage oil (blend) previously shown along side the below phase 3 blend on alternating days.
Arthritis Phase 3, Massage Oil (Rheumatoid Arthritis Continuation):
Rosemary 8 drops
Lavender 7 drops
Frankincense 10 drops
Ginger 5 drops
Use 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to dilute the blend.
This concludes the 6 weeks rheumatoid arthritis treatment before moving on to the osteoarthritis version below. For maintenance, follow the maintenance system outlined a little bit later in this article.
Osteoarthritis – A degenerative disease that wears away the cartilage, leaving exposed bone and causing the formation of rough bone deposits. In addition to taking a daily bath, you’ll need to apply the following formula to the affected areas twice daily.
Arthritis Phase 2, Massage Oil (Osteoarthritis Continuation):
Ginger 13 drops
Black Pepper 8 drops
Cedarwood 4 drops
Cypress 5 drops
As always, dilute in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
