Using essential oils to remedy a swollen ankle as a natural healing aid, can be a pleasant and gentle experience that yields benefits beyond the actual healing of the ailment. Ankles have many reasons for swelling, including Varicose veins, high blood pressure, arthritis, fluid retention, rheumatism, and constipation.

Having your ankles swell, can be a very painful and uncomfortable experience. While there are many other natural therapies to address the condition. Aromatherapy’s essential oils are good ones to use.

Utilizing a pebble bath

Use a bowl with some round pebbles or marbles in it. Fill it with warm water, then go ahead and add:

Cypress            1 drop

Lavender         1 drop

Start rolling your feet at a slow pace over the pebbles/marbles for a few minutes at a time before drying your feet. Next begin massaging your feet to start, then work your way up the ankles towards the knees (massage behind the knees as well). You’re going to do all this massaging with the following oils:

Fennel             1 drop

Cypress            1 drop

Dilute the oils in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

For swollen ankles in hotter temperatures, before massaging anything, place a piece of ice in a plastic bag and rub it behind the knee areas until they start feeling very cold. Now start rubbing the soles of your feet with it.
